In a back-alley behind Shin-Kong Mitsukoshi Department Store in Tianmu, just a few doors down from the Spice Shop, Indian restaurant Saffron beckons to passers-by with aromas of turmeric, star anise and bay leaves. This elegant dining venue is a fine balance of authentic Indian influence and a chic elegant interior to meet the standard of the food found here. Saffron is owned by an Indian restaurateur who, to our luck, brought his love of traditional Indian cooking to Taipei.
The restaurant has the distinctly jovial Indian ambience and is considered by Taipei's local foodies as one of the best authentic Indian restaurants in all of Taiwan. Mouthwatering Indian dishes are served artistically plated and every detail of the dining experience makes patrons feel thoroughly spoiled. Saffron offers a variety of different curries and delightful vegetarian dishes - from homestyle to more noble Indian cooking. There is plenty to choose from, with over eighty items listed on the menu. Those wanting to order set, a la carte, or even to-go are welcome at Saffron. Be sure to try the naan, made fresh from scratch every day. A little advice: things delicious take time to prepare, so naan should be ordered as a side or even an appetiser to hold you over for the main course.
For those seeking all things super spicy, Saffron uses a very unique blend of spices and really turns up the heat on some of their curries, so eat with caution. Kolkata Machli (fish cooked in special curry sauce) and Rogan Josh (lamb cooked in hand selected herbs) are two of the most popular dishes every patron should try when visiting Saffron. Dishes are prepared as healthily as possible, making little use of oil.
Situated in TianMu, Saffron is open for lunch (Tuesday to Sunday) and dinner (all week).
