Cafes
We Love Cookies is a tiny hole-in-the-wall (literally) bakery in the same lane occupied by Taipei's favourite Mediterranean restaurant, Sababa Pita Bar (Gongguan). We Love Cookies, was made famous by amicable frontman T.J., who beckons (sometimes straight out yells) to passers-by, who shuffle a way in fear before the breeze picks up to tickle their nostrils with the captivating aromas shimmying up from T.J.'s trays of fragrant, homemade cookies and cupcakes. T.J. makes all of his delightful sweet treats from his own recipes, researched and tinkered with until just right to make the moist, crumbling, sugary hypnosis that's served up at We Love Cookies, trays after trays.
If you're in this popular dining area, take a stroll through the gorgeous NTU campus or along the winding side alleys of Shida and work off that lazy lunch or heavy dinner, before heading towards We Love Cookies' glowing, butter-scented storefront. Here, you'll regularly find a queue of customers starrily eyeing cheesecake cupcakes and (most recently) chocolate whoopie pies.
The goods served change up regularly, according to freshest ingredients. Ask for what was baked most recently, for hot-out-the-oven baking that has visitors doing a tango from the tastebuds. At this sneaky dessert-store-bakery, the proof is in the pudding. Despite its mightily obscure location, We Love Cookies is famed throughout Taipei and has a remarkably loyal customer base. It's not uncommon to find some students here, scratching a week's worth of pennies together just for another box of green tea pecan chip cookies and cream cheese frosted carrot cake.
From mango and molasses cookies to red velvet cupcakes, there is no question that T.J. is a master of his craft. For a smile and a sugar fix this is certainy a place to be. Though most people congregate outside, there is seating available. Cookies and cupcakes at obscenely good value, and that's all folks!
