Outside Taipei
Wuliaojian Trail (五寮尖) is just a day trip from Taipei and is truly one of the region's most rewarding hikes. The best way to get to Wuliaojian is to take the Taipei MRT blue line, to Yongning station and then ask a taxi to take you to the start of the trail. Remember to take a map, it's not particularly well known. Full of adventure, Wuliaojian Trail has it all. Bouldering, rope climbing, meandering trails and steep hikes.
The demanding trail is doable of hikers at any skill level, but may be a little risky for young children. Though arduous, hikers are rewarded with a breathtaking view of New Taipei City. Hikers, be sure to grab some supplies from the basic store at the start of the trail. Be sure to come armed with water, snacks, suncreen and, as there are many ropes, gloves. The white gardener's variety of gloves will do.
