Recommended Things To Do
Taiwan is striving to be one of the most environment-conscious, environment-friendly cities in the world, championing the sustainable travel and efficient public transportation. Similar to the 'bike-sharing' in London and Paris, locals and tourists can also rent a bike in Taiwan's capital, Taipei. The government partnered with GIANT and other organizations to offer the new YouBike transport system to the public. There are currently 129 rental stations around Taipei with very clear instructions on how to rent a bike.
To make use of the Taipei YouBike system, cyclists should first buy EasyCards (悠遊卡). An EasyCard can be purchased at any Taipei City MRT station and a number of Taipei convenience stores. This electronic payment card allows users to load credit and swipe for transportation fees at YouBike stations, MRT stations, bus paypoints and other transport hubs. The EasyCard system interface can be operated in both Chinese and English. Take note that you will need a Taiwanese mobile number to activate your EasyCard at YouBike stations. To locate a YouBike station near you, check out the listed YouBike stations on the official YouBike website.
It costs around NT$10 per 30 minutes, but if you are a registered EasyCard member, you get the first 30 minutes free. In addition to being eco-friendly, cycling to your destination is a great opportunity for a cheap work out. The YouBike system has really added value to Taipei as a tourist destination. Tourists can also bike around the city in the shadow of skyscrapers, whirring by riverside lawns, parks and temples.
Since it was first established, with just in eleven YouBike stations in downtown Taipei, the YouBike sharing system has rapidly developed to include over one hundred and fifty stations. YouBiking is highly recommended as an easy and fun way to truly experience Taipei. This extremely safe, flat city is ideal for touring on bike. Ec0-friendly, healthy, and ready-to-go anywhere!
